LO1 : Treatment

Treatment

The title for my short film is 'Treasure!'. I have chosen this name as it links most to the theme of the story line, where 2 school students find a rare artefact which has a hidden secret. A reward is put out but the students find the truth of the 'Treasure'. They must then decide whether to return the item, or claim the reward.

The narrative to my short film is there is an artefact from a long time ago. The artefact has a hidden power that only the government know about and want. Two school students George and Joe are walking home from school, interested in history, they know about this artefact and the money that it is worth. When walking home one night they notice something similar to the artefact and grab it. However at this moment a black figure jumps out from the tree lines and scares them away.
The next day the artefact is declared worth a lot more money. The students, being active head to the park before wanting to cash in their discovery. Whilst playing basketball the black figure sits watching, upon having a chance, the bag is stolen and the students ring the police to report it stolen.
The next day the government is alerted to the artefact being in the students possession, and so an agent is sent out to claim back the artefact. The students receive an anonymous call from someone who states the danger of the artefact if it gets into the wrong hands. The students must now choose between the money, or the safety of the UK.

The short film is of the action genre, this would attract viewers by creating tense plot twists and immersive story line.

There is a potential for at least 4 characters in the film, however as a contingency the film can work with 2 characters, playing multiple roles. George and Joe would be the two protagonists, as they try to claim the money but do the right thing and return the item. There will also be 2 antagonists, the black figure and the agent. The two protagonists will be in their late teens/early twenties, and stereo typically and physically appear as that age range. The antagonists will be older, and therefore will make the film more tense by creating more resistance for the teenagers to get through.

A synopsis for my action film is that two people will head into a wood and find the artefact, they figure out the true danger and attempt to return it safely. Multiple camera angles and equipment are necessary to add tension to the event, and post production editing will be necessary to change the time of day.

The required crew for my short film will be: 1x Cameraman / sound (most likely myself), 2-4 actors (can be from our school as a final contingency), and a director (which will most likely be myself also). As the filming can be done in different takes, camerawork should be easy for one person, and actors can be reused in different clothing should they be required to play other parts if they are out of scene.

The equipment i will require will be a DSLR camera (with memory card), Microphone, Tripod, Boom arm (potentially), Slider and Green Screen (potentially). I may also need access to a vehicle (I can use my own) for certain scenes of the film, and miscellaneous props (i.e the artefact, toy weapons etc). With this equipment it will make filming more stable and allow for previously impossible shooting angles (using equipment like the boom arm).

Potential locations for my short film include: Norfolk Heritage Park, Eyre Lane, Hope, backstreet locations (with safety considered) and possibly my home.

Current production plan (will be updated as I progress):
